Abstract
A fundamental equivalence is shown between the harmonic balance, the sample balance, the generalized sample balance, and the shooting methods. This equivalence is shown in terms of the basic equation formulation for the methods and the iteration equations used to find solutions. The paper is intended to be tutorial as well as providing new analysis
