Abstract
With the rapid expansion of the Internet and the dramatically growing of its traffic volume, it is high desirable to design a new distributed measurement architecture that can effectively integrate the existing measurement tools and share the measurement data seamlessly. The paper briefly reviews the current research status of network measurement architecture, and then presents a new model of modern distributed network measurement architecture (in short, MDNM) based on the Web Service technology, details its function model, information model, and organization model. By introducing hot-plug mechanism, modeling the measurement information as three layers according to the stages the information being processed, and applying the Web Service framework in the measurement context, the model can effectively incorporate the existing measurement tools with any emerging, platform-independent measurement components.
