  • Abstract
The authors discuss research investigating the utility of three-dimensional stereo imaging for use in the remote monitoring and control of a robot workcell. These first experiments form the preliminary studies for a long-term research program designed to explore the interaction between operators and telerobots. Results from a set of experimental trials using 12 human subjects are included, verifying the hypothesis that three-dimensional video improves task performance compared to conventional two-dimensional video. Issues in task learning are discussed, and a solution to the problems of learning is presented
