Abstract
We propose a new design method for optical CDMA computer networks-called “statistical design” (SD)-which uses the interrelation between the physical layer and data link layer. This generalized consideration allows one to reduce the hardware effort, which is usually necessary to ensure low bit error ratios, taking into account the bursty traffic of such kind of networks. For this type of networks the delay-throughput characteristic is of essential interest
