Abstract
Field survey conducted on ceramic raw material for the production of technical ceramics in Nigeria reveals that not only that the country is endowed but that they are abundant, highly qualitative and highly untapped. The aim of this paper was to investigate how efficient local raw materials can be used to develop white and high fired ceramic bodies. The basic raw materials like kaolin, feldspar and quartz were subjected to triaxal experimentation of 21 compositions in which each of the 3 tests. All test samples were subjected to firing at 1305°C to determine if any of the composition will exhibit the characteristic of porcelain. Two of the composition was developed further and final result came out translucent, white, hard and impervious to water. Other investigations were carried out through structured questionnaire and interview on the variable element of the research (producer, consumer and marketer). This research is essential catalyst expected to stimulate development in the areas of shelter, power and energy generation, communication, sewage control, waste material handling and processing.
