Abstract
Measurement-based admission control (MBAC) offers an attractive means for satisfying the quality-of-service (QoS) requirements of delay-sensitive multimedia applications, without requiring an advanced and detailed traffic characterization of each individual traffic flow. In this paper, we argue that measured maximal rate envelopes of the aggregate traffic flow can be used to design an MBAC algorithm that successfully controls the admissible region subject to the applications´ QoS constraints, for the case of heterogeneous and highly bursty traffic flows, buffered multiplexers, and both moderate and large numbers of traffic flows
