Abstract
Photonically implemented beamforming requirements, architectures, and technologies are discussed for application to military and commercial SATCOM antenna systems. Several general performance requirements motivate the use of leverage from photonic beamforming to facilitate the effective implementation of future SATCOM antenna systems. A wide variety of beamforming architectures and techniques have been examined for applicability to these systems. The most attractive candidates are described as are the key photonic technologies that will enable the eventual implementation of these systems
