  • Abstract
Localization is one of the key technologies in wireless sensor networks, and accuracy is a significant criterion to evaluate the practical utility of localization algorithm. Synthetically considering cost and energy consumption, it can only be deployed in detection area with a small number of reference nodes. In this paper, a novel localization algorithm based on Received Signal Strength Ratio (RSSR) is proposed. This algorithm firstly generates curves of received signal strength ratio, and then calculates the intersection to introduce a large number of virtual reference nodes, which improve localization precision greatly. Then we explain the curves of received signal strength ratio, analyze the theoretical error, and evaluate our algorithm. Simulation results show that the localization precision of the proposed algorithm compared with the RSSI algorithm is improved greatly, and RSSR still has a relatively good accuracy without reconstructing data set, thus it is well flexible and practical for real applications.
