  • Abstract
    To prevent transmission control protocol (TCP) connections from degrading the throughput over wireless links, we previously proposed a novel transmission power control method over code division multiple access (CDMA) packet communication systems. By applying this transmission power control method to multi-class communications, we propose a packet multiplexing method and a transmission power control method suitable for a mixture of constant bit rate (CBR) and TCP connections. Our proposed methods guarantee quality of service (QoS) for CBR connections and utilize bandwidth effectively for TCP connections without modifying TCP or using slot assignment. Evaluation of our proposed methods by computer simulation demonstrated that they provide the near-maximum throughput and guarantee the packet loss ratio of CBR connections independent of the number of connections
