Abstract
A class of flow control policies is proposed that is based on proper priority models derived from grade-of-service parameters. ISDN (integrated services digital network) classes of services are treated using a two-level strategy to achieve a proper level of network-resources utilization and an acceptable level of user satisfaction. Quantitative parameters to characterize each of these features are presented. The first level of the flow control policy is based on sequencing and scheduling, while the second uses multipriority queuing with due dates. Both levels are described and analyzed fully. The superiority of the proposed technique over conventional FCFS policies is formally proved, and numerical examples are given to validate the approach
