  • Abstract
    Summary form only given. We demonstrate a novel method of identifying high phonon energy oxide sites that couple directly to Pr/sup 3+/ ions in GeS/sub 2/-based glasses. The method uses emission spectroscopy at visible wavelengths, is highly sensitive and easy to employ, and gives quantitative as well as qualitative results. The structure of GeO/sub 2/ containing GeS/sub 2/-based glasses, and the effect of GeO/sub 2/ on the dopant ion environment are also discussed.
