Abstract
Multipactor is a resonant phenomenon in which an electromagnetic field causes free electrons to impact a surface, resulting in the surface emitting secondary electrons which can sustain the process. This paper presents an approach to reduce the secondary electron yield (SEY) of the impacting electrons by introducing higher-order modes within the resonant structure, thereby pushing the electrons to impacting energies where the SEY is lower. Preliminary computer simulations are presented which demonstrate this reduction in multipactor for 2-dimensional coaxial geometries.
