Abstract
A method to estimate the interference level for use in a block decoding and carrier-to-interference ratio (CIR)-based closed-loop transmission power control (TPC) in a slow frequency-hopping (slow-FH) radio communication system is described. The reverse-link performance of the system is evaluated. In this interference estimation method, the difference level between the decoded symbol block and the received symbol block is used in the receiver. Even the CIR for damaged slots can be estimated because all the slots are not always affected by the same interference in the slow-FH system. We use computer simulation to determine whether the decoding with estimated interference and CIR-based TPC works well in a slow-FH/16-quadrature amplitude modulation (16-QAM) system. The obtained bit error rate (BER) performance shows that it achieves high-quality transmission
