Abstract
Accurate health estimation is of prime importance to reduce operational costs and guarantee readiness levels of mission critical systems such as found in, e.g., the aerospace industry. Construction of health management systems is complicated by the complexity of systems under scrutiny, both in terms of the dynamic behavior of these systems and in terms of the number of components and how they interact. In this paper, we describe the so-called model-based health tracking approach towards constructing health management systems. This technique uses a model, built up from relatively simple component descriptions, of overall system behavior to cope with complex component interactions, and it continuously tracks system health state to monitor dynamic systems
