Abstract
The generalized analytic predictor of S.K.P. Wong and D.F. Seborg (1986) has been shown to be a more advantageous method of dealing with delay systems, when compared to other predictors. The authors propose a more general formulation of the adaptation filter used in the generalized analytic predictor. The new formulation agrees with higher-order modelling of the original plant. The general parameters of the problem are defined, and the classical results relevant to adaptation filters of order 1 and 2 are reviewed. An alternate straightforward formulation for adaptation filters of order 2 is proposed and is extended to include the case of load disturbance. The authors treat the case of adaptation filters of order 3, including the case of load disturbance. The general case of an adaptation filter of any order is proven inductively, and is extended to include the case of load disturbance
