  • Abstract
    Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) is used in the transit industry to achieve schedule adherence and reduce supervisory costs. Passengers benefit only indirectly. A more direct benefit is a Personal Portable Transit arrival-time-receiver, to provide a real time estimate of the time to arrival of the bus, subway, special needs/handicapped passenger transit pick-up, or high occupancy vehicle.
