Abstract
The wind turbine operating area can be divided into several regions, depending on wind speed. The control objectives are different for each operating region. This paper mainly deals with the control of a variable speed pitch regulated wind turbine in the full load operating area. The research work presented in this paper is aimed to reduce pitch actuator fatigue and smooth output power above-rated power operating condition. To cope with the nonlinear characteristics of wind turbine, a new control strategy for variable speed pitch-regulated wind turbine is proposed. In the proposed method a variable gains PD controller based on fuzzy control theory is used. A comparison with purposed strategies and PI controllers is performed. Simulation result show that the proposed approach results in better power regulation and less pitch action. The proposed strategy is easy to realize and has stronger robustness.
