Abstract
We present an extensive comparison of techniques capable of characterizing sub-6-fs pulses from a laser. Apart from the traditional characterization by autocorrelation and measuring the spectrum, we use novel variants of spectral interferometry for direct electric field reconstruction (SPIDER) and frequency-resolved optical gating (FROG) that have been optimized for use with pulses of extreme bandwidth. Both of these techniques allow for a full characterization of the pulses, i.e., they reconstruct pulse amplitude and phase
