Abstract
Modern critical care computer systems are relatively complex departmental systems. The author describes the system hardware and software and a software tool, AVA, which supports the planning of such systems. Two examples of planning are given: one is for the German Heart Center of Berlin, and the other is for the expansion of the SICUs of Medizinische Hochschule Hannover, Federal Republic of Germany.<>
