Abstract
Transient responses of externally excited nonuniform and uniform transmission lines are investigated. The excited field is generated by a monopole antenna installed in the vicinity of the transmission line and driven by a step waveform. The numerical method employed is based on the finite-difference time-domain method, which can easily derive the transient response at the ends of the transmission line and the transient field distribution as well. Thus the coupling mechanism between the antenna and the transmission line is clarified based on the transient fields results. Experiments are conducted and the calculated results are compared with the measured data
