Abstract
Events such as the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks and the natural disasters of the 2004 tsunami and the floods in New Orleans have brought an awareness of the risks associated with large-scale disasters, which can damage or destroy equipment at single sites and over many tens of kilometres or more. This paper discusses the issues, and looks at how Sun Microsystems has combined the latest advances in cluster and Java technology with commercial data replication products to create a solution
