Abstract
In this paper, the authors design a model following PD control system for the optimal fuel-injection of a diesel engine which has robust stability to modeling error and satisfactory command tracking performance. This PD control system is designed by applying genetic algorithms (GAs) to the determination of the proportional gain (P) and the derivative gain (D) that are given by a PD servo controller, to make the output of the plant follow the output of the reference model optimally. To do this, they optimize these gains simultaneously in the search domain which guarantees the robust stability of the closed-loop system using GA. This PD control system for optimal fuel-injection has robust stability and better command tracking performance than those of the H∞ control system. The effectiveness of this PD control system is verified by simulation
