Abstract
Summary form only given. Surgical tools are traditionally heat treated in the high temperature over one thousand degrees in centigrade with their SUS 440 steels annealed below five hundred degrees or below. However their mechanical properties get improved dramatically using modern plasma treatment such as PACVD, plasma sputtering, PSII, etc. In the case of using PSII, a typical reactor set of parameters are chosen with the applying voltage of 120 KV in the one cubic meter chamber at KERI and processing temperature below two hundred degrees in centigrade for the SUS 440 steel series. High batch volume processing could also reduce the excessive cost overrun by the usually expensive plasma treatment. On the other hand, sliding effect on the nice looking scissor edge would create a poor feeling in the tissue cutting, for instance. Best operation room quality is derived using the PSII in the plasma surface treatment of surgical tool like scissors and messes. Their mechanical properties are reported including the wearness, implantation depth, hardness, and surface friction force of these tools.
