Abstract
Utility scale solar PV and energy storage are considered for electric utility system with increasing penetration of renewable energy. In this paper, an integrated system of PV, energy storage and grid is analyzed to evaluate the effective load carrying capability (ELCC). A 100 MW solar PV plant and 100 MWh utility scale energy storage are added to an existing power system. The load profile is modified when PV and storage are added. The analysis shows a substantial improvement in ELCC of the system.
