Abstract
The implementations of GPS trackers are the major source of getting latitude and longitude values in automobile tracking solutions. But such trackers lose their worth when the automobile, in which they are installed, reaches a location where the GPS data is improperly received or not received at all. Such vulnerable locations include underpasses, tunnels and underground parking lots. A system design, which can be used to circumvent the aforementioned problem in association with conventional GPS tracker devices, is described in this paper. The design incorporates a MEMS accelerometer to obtain acceleration readings and a microcontroller to convert the measured acceleration into displacement by the means of efficient DSP algorithms.
