Abstract
Miniaturized bandpass filters in system in package were investigated for GSM and GPS applications using embedded capacitor material. Filters with novel LC resonator structure were proposed, and had small sizes of 3.5 mm by 1.7 mm and 3.1 mm by 1.1 mm, respectively. The filter for GPS had a 3 dB bandwidth of 140 MHz (1.521.66 GHz), and another one for GSM was also 140 MHz (0.83 GHz-0.97 GHz). The loss mechanism of the novel structure was also investigated. The results showed that conductor loss had more influence on frequency properties than dielectric loss for the GSM and GPS applications. That is to say, if the frequency beyond multi-MHz, the conductor loss of this miniaturized resonator structure would dominate over the loss mechanism.
