  • Abstract
Bluetooth is a technology developed for short range communications between Computers, Mobile Phones, Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) and other devices. It was developed to replace the proprietary cables which interconnect devices together. In this paper we have designed a Bluetooth digital communication system (DCS) by making use of Frequency Hopping at a data rate 1 Mbps with 1600 hops per second in order to prevent interference with other devices operating in the same unlicensed band. We have designed the DCS consisting of the transmitter, receiver and the channel models. In particular, the transmitter has been uniquely designed by employing channel coding and Gaussian Frequency Shift Keying (GFSK) modulation, the channel has been modelled by applying Additive white Gaussian Noise (AWGN) to the propagated signal and the receiver has been uniquely designed by using channel decoding and GFSK demodulation. In order to validate the performance of the designed system, Bit Error Rate (BER) measurements were taken against Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) using an enhanced computer Simulink.
