  • Abstract
    In this study, we investigate further the SmCo5 thin film, especially from the viewpoint of an application to a perpendicular magnetic recording medium. The introduction of a Ti layer under the Cu seedlayer is found to be useful in enhancing the PMA. Moreover, the addition of Cu to the Sm-Co layer enables reduction of seedlayer thickness without deteriorating the PMA. The SmCo5 thin films were prepared using a dc magnetron sputtering system.
