Abstract
Typical wireless video communication applications involve two important basic chains, namely, coding and transmission. Video coding artifacts and packet losses are often introduced in the chains, respectively, which affect the quality of experience (QoE) of end-users for the delivered contents. In order to provide insights for design of QoE-aware content delivery applications, this paper presents a subjective quality assessment study that investigates the mechanism of quality perception under simultaneous existence of the coding and packet loss artifacts. Experimental results based on the paired comparison methodology show interesting observations such as the masking effect of one type of artifacts by the other one, the content-dependence of the visibility of the artifacts, and so on.
