  • Abstract
    In this paper a new optimization technique has been implemented to solve the economic dispatch (ED) problem. A Modified Artificial Bee Colony (MABC) algorithm is applied. A more judicious ED problem formulation considering valve point effect, ramp rate limits and prohibited operating zones utilized. The performance of the method is verified by implementation on three test systems. The overall cost of operation obtained by MABC is compared with the most of the latest reported algorithms in the literature.
