Abstract
This paper studies the problems with LEACH protocol and presents improved ideas to select the cluster head node. The main problem with the LEACH lies in the random selection of cluster heads. There exists a probability that cluster heads formed are unbalanced and may remain in one part of network making some part of network unreachable. Here our main purpose is to select a cluster head depending upon its current energy level and distance from the sink node. This increases the energy efficiency and hence network lifetime.
