Abstract
This document presents a quantitative study of the incorporation of electric vehicles (EVs) in the distribution system of the city of Santiago. Specifically, the paper focuses on the reconfiguration requirements of the electric power grid. A model that estimate the increase in the electric load based on the transportation behavior of a city, assuming that the electric vehicle will be used by individuals according to their needs and the characteristics of the city transportation system is developed. Results indicate the power that future EVs will require can be determined according to their level of penetration and geographical distribution in a city. Finally, an scenario analysis is developed for assessing the peak load of electric vehicular and assess the need for reconfiguring or strengthening the distribution network.
