Abstract
A Fabry-Perot (F-P) antenna with conical beam is presented. Cavity structure with a cross-slot FSS superstrate is designed resonant at a prescribed flare angle and a specified defect frequency by combining leaky wave and EBG antenna theory. By using a circular patch as the primary source, the aperture distribution can be controlled with appropriate mode to achieve desirable gain and side lobe level. Through optimized design, the impedance bandwidth of 5.34% with -10 dB return loss, the gain of 13.4dBi and a flare angle of 30 degrees have been achieved at the central frequency 12.5GHz. The side lobe level is -11.5dB and the ripple of gain is 1.56dB.
