Abstract
Based on the architectural views of the unified software development process, this paper demonstrates the appropriateness of utilizing use case models as a basis for comprehensive quantitative software projects assessment. A number of use case based metrics are proposed and practically demonstrated using a test project. This showed the ease, timeliness, and usefulness of calculating and using the proposed metrics. Further research is being carried out to automate the process of calculating the proposed metrics throughout the different phases of the software development life cycle in an attempt to support an automated approach for software process monitoring and control.
