  • Abstract
A high-speed serial link transceiver employing pulse-width-modulation (PWM) and pulse-amplitude-modulation (PAM) techniques is presented. A 4-level PWM and 4-level PAM signaling is implemented to push high data rates through bandwidth-limited channels effectively. The chip fabricated in a 0.18-μm CMOS technology can achieve the transfer rate of 1-Gb/s. The PWM/PAM transmitter and receiver cells exhibit a power consumption of 175-mW and 81-mW, respectively, under a 1.8-V supply voltage.
