Abstract
The rule of locating acoustic sensor is demonstrated in detail for acoustics detecting gearbox. The sound pressure expression is worked out based on the acoustics model built in the paper. With the expression, the sound pressure curves are drawn according to different distance and variable frequencies. Furthermore, the transversal position of locating acoustic sensor is discussed, which shows that the sensor should be mounted normal to the gearbox board center. The experiment certified the conclusions above. It indicates that the locating acoustic sensor affects the detecting result significantly. The acoustic sensor should be set at the point that the sound pressure amplitude is large and insensitive to the position, in response to the signal frequency and the size of the gearbox.
