Abstract
Inductors are indispensable components in several radio frequency (RF) devices such as power amplifiers that are used in pulsing applications. For instance, inductors are one of the most critical components of RF power amplifiers where they are used as filter component, a resonating element or as RF choke. The design and implementation of inductor depends on the application including operating frequency and power level. In addition, it maybe required to have larger inductance values in a space restricted areas. Toroidal cores are commonly used due to their several benefits including low profile in comparison to air core inductors and the ability to keep flux density within the magnetic material. This provides self-shielding capability, which is very important for high power pulsing applications. However, there seems to be no analysis available in the literature on the characteristics of the toriodal inductors when they are used in RF power amplifiers during high power pulsing.
