  • Abstract
Summary form only given. In this paper soliton solutions of the three wave interaction equations are used to analyze the process of second-harmonic generation by short laser pulses in a dispersive medium. It is shown that even for highly dispersive media conversion efficiencies close to 100% are attainable for incoming waves with different intensities and durations. It is also shown that the intensity/duration of the second harmonic generated can be many times greater/smaller than those of the fundamental pulses.
