Abstract
Summary form only given. Bright optical solitons can exist in systems where group-velocity dispersion (GVD) and nonlinearity are opposite. The optical fiber with its anomalous GVD and focusing Kerr-like nonlinearity is the most prominent example. An approach to the problem is to account for the very origin of the dispersion, namely the resonances of the system. Mathematically this means that one uses a Laurent series rather than a Taylor expansion.
