Abstract
Summary form only given. The nonlinear response of optical cavities containing avalanche upconversion crystals has not been studied previously. Here we report characteristics of a laser cavity containing Tm/sup 3+/:LiYF/sub 4/, excited at an avalanche resonance. Self-pulsing and an interesting self-locking phenomenon are reported.
