Abstract
Two methods (the maximum ripple method and the extra-ripple method) for designing optimal Chebyshev multiband FIR (finite-impulse response) digital filters are introduced. These methods usually converge rapidly even when the number of bands is large, and with the addition of some simple heuristic techniques will produce filters which are free of transition-region magnitude-response anomalies. Both of these methods use a Remez-type exchange algorithm, a novel initialization strategy, and a selective search which reduces the amount of computation needed to carry out a design.<>
