Abstract
Considers the vulnerability of semiconductors in a 500 kJ electrothermal-chemical (ETC) gun at the Sowerby Research Centre. Near field emission measurements of transient electric and magnetic fields have been made 2m from the gun assembly. These have demonstrated transient electric fields of the order of 1 kV m-1 and more slowly rising magnetic fields of 10-4 Tesla. More recent and extensive measurements on a larger installation have confirmed the field levels. Their likely effects on external circuits and on sensitive materials have been estimated
