Abstract
The exponentially spaced array is not suitable for an array with a large number of elements, because its nearby (main lobe) sidelobe level (NSL) is not lower than -13.5 dB and is independent of the array size and the element number. The design is a linear array using amplitude weighting is described. A method for the synthesis of optimum thinning arrays with any desired NSL is presented. The optimum array obtained by this method is useful for a large receiving array matched by a small transmitting antenna
