Abstract
This paper deals with the maximum power capture control of variable speed wind turbines (VSWT). The control objective is to keep the tip speed ratio at its optimal value by tracking the desired generator rotor speed ratio and further maximize the power coefficient to capture maximum wind power. A PI switching controller based on virtual un-modeled dynamic compensation was proposed to deal with the complicated nonlinear uncertain wind energy conversion system and the stochastic behavior of wind. The proposed method is capable of solving nonlinearity, strong disturbance, order and parameter uncertainty and other complicated system problems effectively. Simulation results indicate that the control strategy can improve tracking performance and ensure while maintaining safe operation.
