Abstract
Interstitial lung disease, a heterogeneous group of parenchymal lung disorder is a great menace to human health. Segmentation is a major step in the estimation of interstitial lung disease using Computer Aided Diagnosis (CAD) system. In this paper, an automatic segmentation of lung field is presented which separates the exact lung region from the background CT slice. An active contour with distance regularized level set method is used for segmentation which clearly traces the right and left lung separately. When compared to the conventional methods, this method avoids the need for reinitialization and hence it produces accurate segmentation results.
