  • Abstract
A terahertz (THz) absorber using asymmetric split ring resonators (ASRs) was designed, fabricated and characterized. As the symmetry of a split ring resonator (SRR) is broken, the trapped mode resonance is excited, which shows higher absorption and Q factor than the dipole resonance of the symmetric resonator. By displacing the gap from center by 0.5µm, an absorber with the highest measured absorptivity of 0.99 is realized. The bandwidth of 0.61THz with the absorptivity beyond 0.9 is 2.5 times as wide as that of the symmetric dipole peak.
