Abstract
Virtools is a set of real-time 3D environment for Virtual Reality editing software. Virtools supports both scripting languages and SDK by providing a graphical development environment and more than 600 built-in Building Blocks. The article describes how to build an interactive 3D scene, integrated model 3DMax, custom Building blocks as well as other multi-media resources, based on the Virtools platform. It also describes how to read data from serial port through Building Blocks and to control 3D scene to make different actions according to different data. In addition, interactivity of man-machine is implemented by Building Blocks built-in Virtools such as keystroke response, the script and so on. Virtools makes the development process be shortened and reduce the difficulty. This design method provides a new way to create interactive 3D scene.
