Abstract
The paper deals with the dynamic behaviour of power systems when large active power imbalances occur. The influence of the response of thermoelectric units is examined using results obtained with a network simulator, taking into consideration a scenario similar to that of the Italian black-out of September 28, 2003. The importance of advanced tools for power systems dynamic simulation is stressed.
