Abstract
In this paper, specific quality of marine acoustic environment was studied. Sound spreading law of inverse-range, vertical sound speed profile, the channeling of sound over long distances and difference between ambient noise level in shallow water and deep ocean through high level of propagation was examined. The question how and why marine mammals use sound was discussed by analyzing the hearing system of marine mammals (baleen and toothed whales) and fishes.
