Abstract
We review different structures for microwave and optical range containing ´left-handed´ metamaterials - artificial composites with simultaneously negative effective permittivity and permeability. Special attention is dedicated to their fundamentals, design strategies and main applications which include subwavelength resonant cavities, superlenses, etc.
